NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service

Overview

Need a supply of oral contraception?

If you’re already taking oral contraception (the pill) or looking for your first supply, you can arrange a confidential consultation at a local participating pharmacy.

The majority of our pharmacies are able to offer the service most days of the week, however some will require to book in on a certain day of the week. Please ask at your local pharmacy about their contraception service. You can also check the NHS service finder.

Your GP or sexual health clinic can also refer you, but you don’t have to be registered with a GP.

Your one-to-one consultation with a pharmacist will be held in a private room in the pharmacy. If they agree that the pill is suitable for you, a supply can be made by the pharmacist there and then.

Benefits

The pharmacy contraception service is confidential, and free for everyone. You don’t need to be registered with a GP.

Accessing this service

Unless you give permission, the pharmacist will not tell anyone about your consultation with them, including your GP.
